ABOUT - EPIC CONDITIONS : HAWAII SURFING

The perfect combination of weather and geography create the most epic conditions. Only a few times a year the monster swells of the inlet “Jaws” break off the coast of Maui, Hawaii.

Fifty to sixty foot monster waves with 50,000 tons of force are the big wave surfer’s dream. The biggest wave that has been ridden at Jaws, or the Hawaiian pronunciation “Peahi,” was estimated at 70 feet. The question posed is can bigger wave surfing get bigger? The surfers are still searching for the fantasy swell, and predict that someone will ride the enormous 100 foot swell.

Big wave championship surfers Mike Parsons, Brad Gerlach, Garret McNamara, and Hawaiian native surfer Ikaika Kalama talk about their life and near death experiences while riding the waves of Jaws. These daredevil wave riders discuss how important meteorologists and their weather predictions are to their sport, as well as how tow in surfing changed the sport for the better.
