ABOUT - EPIC CONDITIONS : BRITISH COLUMBIA BIKING
In British Columbia, Canada, vast mountains are home to the mecca of mountain biking. Whistler Mountain houses an extremely wide variety of terrain ranging from 9,000 foot mountains to sea level bike trails. In the winter months Whistler is one of the world’s premiere ski spots, but in the summer the mountains are the epicenter for the free ride mountain biking culture.
In this episode, fearless mountain bikers call the hundreds of miles of trails home during the season. Professionals Claire Buchar, Lisa Sher, Tyler Morland, and free riding pioneer Richie Schley talk about their sport and it’s development at the top location.
Although bike technology is advancing, success comes from the skill and experience of the rider. Professional geo-scientist Chris Holm and Environment Canada meteorologist David Jones discuss the dangers and the importance of weather to this extreme sport.
This traditional style of riding called “North Shore,” got its name from the north shore of Vancouver, and has spread across the globe. For these hardcore athletes the reward is much higher than the risk; they challenge themselves and their bodies for the biggest adrenaline rush. Heli-biking is a new style that allows for some of the most vertical lines in the world and is sure to continue the evolution of the sport.
