When most people decide to go to the Hawaiian islands for a week with four of their best friends, they probably envision the gentle brush of trade winds, the hither and yon of warm waves rushing up onto the beaches, and the welcoming arms of the Polynesian people waiting to greet them and attend to their every need. Yet when World-class triathlete Jason Lester decided to invite four of his fellow athletes to the 50th state, gentle, warm, and attending were the last things on his mind.
Instead, Lester, along with Juan Craveri, Josef Ajram, Chet Blanton, and Christian Isakson, are envisioning five days of hell in paradise. These five, along with Mike Flarty, the Nike Women’s Triathlete Relay team, and day 5 Kona participant, William Pruett, will be participating in one of the most super-human endeavors ever...The Epic5 Challenge.
Long known for its legendary triathlon conditions, the Epic5 Challenge will traverse across the Hawaiian islands in five days for, not one...not two, but five triathlons in five days! That’s right! 703 miles of human-powered swimming, cycling and running during five full triathlons in five days.
What’s most interesting about this event is that even the most experienced veteran of triathlons, Chet Blanton, is admitting that he is somewhat apprehensive about pulling this thing off. It really scares him. Blanton tells us that, if he makes it through the first day, he will then be good to go through all five. Yet, since this is not a competition, but a demonstration of these athlete’s super-human abilities, Blanton will have the support of the entire E5 team, as they will all rally around each other during the 5 day trek.
It will be this compelling dichotomy of each individual reaching down deep inside for the will-power to complete the five days, combined with the team element of E5 that may indeed harness enough energy to carry all of the participants across the line. And when that happens, it will end up being the trip of a lifetime for all of Lester’s friends.
The athletes are now in training mode and getting their minds, bodies, and their spirit in line for this incredible challenge. You can follow it all here on the E5 Blog, where we will carry all the behind the scenes developments, features on each of the athletes, and information on how you too can participate in this super-human endeavor...of course all within the friendly confines of your computer screen. Visit http://www.epic5.com for more information on the Epic5 Challenge.

The Epic 5 Challenge
Mankind has long sought to test the limits of human endurance with feats of conquest. Climbing Mount Everest, the Tour de France, and swimming the English Channel have all presented formidable challenges that made overcoming them notable and historic. But later this spring, from May 5th through 9th, the current standards in human endurance will be shattered as nine World-class athletes from around the world attempt to complete five full triathlons in just five days across five Hawaiian Islands. Its the inaugural EPIC5 Challenge, and its being featured exclusively here on OutsideTV.com.
Why would anyone even try this...let alone 9 people? What goes into planning and preparing for such a rigorous challenge? Who are these athletes and what makes them tick? I will be taking you behind the scenes, inside their heads, and across the islands as 2009 ESPY Award winner Jason P. Lester leads this team of incredible athletes on an odyssey that captures the human spirit by testing the human limits. More on the Epic5 Challenge can be discovered at http://www.epic5.com.
