Come Back Alive…Come Back as Friends.

Lately, I have found myself in constant adventure-planning mode. We have a fun one on deck for June/July of this year (details to come later), but for now it is all about the planning.

Once a trip transitions from a “little adventure” to something more along the lines of an “expedition,” its success lies in the details. Experience has taught me that one of the most important details is choosing whom you decide to travel with.

A friend once told me that there are two rules to adventuring:

#1. Come back alive
#2. Come back as friends

Trust in the Guardian- Salomon Freeski TV- “Selkirks Touring”

When you are skiing powder in Canada’s Selkirk mountain range, Research and Development is a very good job. Companies often want to see how their prototype product works in the field so somebody’s got to do it.

none of this has any relevance

Time passes, wounds heal, things change. I am adapting...every day feels different, new and fresh. I am working hard on a fresh perspective, because I have lately discovered that no moment is ordinary: nothing is regular, average, standard.

On my way home… but when?

What a week of contrasts… Going from resetting the GOR speed record to drifting aimlessly in the fog on a mill pond ocean. Musically we’ve gone from intensity of the “Flight of the Bumble Bee” to “The Teddy Bear’s Picnic” played on a bass tuba, by a valium addict. Not the most inspiring stuff.

The Flying Boat

For days now we’ve been stalked by a monster of a front that has been whirling through the GOR fleet as a ball of spiky red wind barbs. With the system on final approach, Sam and I decided to go for broke to consolidate our lead over the Fields. We ran deep through puffy 45+ knot squalls and positioned ourselves in the path of the beast.
